One of the things i'm struggling with the most when it comes to interior design is finding nice lampshades. I'm just not very good at it pared with the fact that in Norwegian lamp-shops, the selection isn't really all that good. So when i purchased this lamp base from H&M home i also bought a white shade from Bohus to go with it but it turned out to be too white, which is an odd statement coming from me because i usually don't like the murky often yellowish shades that white comes in. First i thought of just buying a new one but i couldn't really find one i liked, and i figured i had already used money on this one and liked the shape of it.

Then i remembered pinning a DIY project on my Pinterest a while back of someone using ribbons to "dress" the lampshade. I'm usually not a DIY person though, i'm too much of a self critic to be happy with the results so i rarely embark on these projects but i figured this might be doable. Went to the nearest Søstrene Grene boutique and found the last 6 pieces of a light grey ribbon with a golden trim on the side plus a small ribbon in white with the same golden trim on it. I should also add that i absolutely suck at math and i had no idea if the amount of ribbon i purchased would be enough. Didn't have a plan B either since this ribbon was from their last collection and wouldn't be restocked in the same colour. I had about 4 cm (1,5 inches) left when the project was done 😄 Sure, there's a couple of snags here and there but those i can live with. The pictures don't do the lampshade justice though, because the golden trim on the side of the ribbon gives the lampshade a completely different look depending on which side you're watching it from. And the small trim on the top and on the bottom just adds a little bit extra to it.

So if you're looking for an easy DIY project, here you go! There are different ways to go about it though so i'm going to list a couple of versions for you below:

• Emily Hales - No sew fabric lamp shade
• Our Fifth House - No sew Pleated lampshade

Or you could buy one of Michèle's beautiful shades from her little online shop
Bay-Design which inspired my design.
